Capabilities & boundaries

What it supports. Where the limits are.

Tool support requires the appropriate API integration; a supported tool is not automatically active in every chat.

Supported API features and tools

  • Streaming responses
  • Function calling
  • Text and image input
  • Web search, file search, image generation tools, and MCP

Before you choose

  • No native audio or video support; image generation is a separate tool, not native output.
  • Structured outputs are not supported. Function calling does not establish schema-constrained final-answer support.
  • Code interpreter and fine-tuning are not supported.
  • Difficult requests can take several minutes; allow for asynchronous completion rather than promising instant answers.

Choose the reasoning effort

mediumhighxhigh

OpenAI lists medium, high, and xhigh for this model without establishing a default in the reviewed reference. Select an effort explicitly for a reproducible API evaluation, then compare answer quality, token use, and response time on the same tasks.

Unsupported settings: none, minimal, low, max.

  • Responses API only; Chat Completions is not supported. Use background mode for long-running API requests where appropriate.
  • Batch availability is unclear: the model reference lists it as unsupported, while the pricing page lists Batch rates. Confirm current availability with OpenAI before designing a Batch workflow.
  • The documented snapshot is gpt-5.2-pro-2025-12-11. Pinning a snapshot helps keep an evaluation reproducible.
  • API rate limits depend on usage tier; the free API tier is not supported.

Workflow 01

Challenge a project decision

Test the reasoning behind a proposal using only the evidence supplied.

Examine this project proposal, decision criteria, and supporting evidence. Identify assumptions that could reverse the recommendation, conflicts between evidence and conclusions, and missing information that matters most. Cite each relevant section. Present the strongest supported alternative, then a short decision checklist. Do not treat plausible speculation as an established fact.

Workflow 02

Audit a multi-step calculation

Separate mathematical checks from assumptions about the underlying data.

Audit the calculation and source data below. Recompute each step using the stated units, show where rounding changes the result, and identify any missing definitions or inconsistent assumptions. Separate arithmetic errors from modeling choices. Give a corrected calculation only when the inputs support it, and finish with independent checks a reviewer can repeat.

Workflow 03

Review a system migration plan

Look for failure modes, dependencies, and testable rollback conditions.

Review this migration plan against the supplied architecture, dependencies, and service objectives. Identify failure modes at each transition, evidence needed before proceeding, and conditions that should trigger rollback. Cite the plan or architecture section behind each concern. Produce a staged review checklist with owners marked unknown where none are supplied; do not invent system behavior.

OpenAI API pricing

These are OpenAI API reference prices, not EZ Ai Assist subscription prices.

View EZ Ai Assist plans
Standard processing · USD per 1,000,000 tokens
Token typePrice
Input$21.00
Output$168.00
  • These are Standard rates for gpt-5.2-pro, not the lower-cost gpt-5.2 model.
  • The reviewed table lists no cached-input discount or separate long-context price; no unavailable rate is represented as zero.
  • Tool calls and other service tiers can have separate charges. Batch pricing in a table is not proof of endpoint availability; confirm the documentation mismatch before use.
  • Prices can change. Verify current pricing and actual token usage before estimating API cost.

Common questions

A few things worth knowing.

How does GPT-5.2 Pro differ from GPT-5.2 Thinking?

This guide describes gpt-5.2-pro, a distinct model with higher API prices and medium/high/xhigh reasoning options. GPT-5.2 Thinking maps to gpt-5.2. Do not transfer Thinking’s default effort, endpoints, or structured-output support to Pro.

Can I use it through Chat Completions?

No. The model reference specifies the Responses API only. Some requests take several minutes, so OpenAI recommends considering background mode to avoid timeouts in a direct API integration.

Does it support structured outputs?

No. It supports function calling, but the model reference marks structured outputs unsupported. Asking for JSON in a prompt is not equivalent to a guaranteed schema-constrained answer; validate any output before using it.

Which reasoning effort should I use?

Choose from medium, high, and xhigh. The reviewed model reference does not establish a default. Start with a fixed setting and representative tasks, then compare quality and latency before paying for more reasoning.

Is Batch supported?

The current sources disagree: the model endpoint table says Batch is unsupported, while the pricing page lists Batch rates. Treat availability as unconfirmed and check with OpenAI before building around it. This guide shows only Standard reference prices.

Can it work with images and generate media?

It accepts image input and produces text. Image generation is listed as a Responses tool, not native output. Native audio and video are not supported; tools still require an integration and may not be available in EZ Ai Assist.

Does Pro mean my EZ Ai Assist Pro subscription?

No. GPT-5.2 Pro is an OpenAI model name; its API token rates are separate from EZ Ai Assist subscriptions. Check the app for model availability, controls, and usage allowances before applying these workflow examples.
