Tool support requires the appropriate API integration; a supported tool is not automatically active in every chat.
Supported API features and tools
NVIDIA’s hybrid Mamba-2/Transformer mixture-of-experts architecture combines 120B total and 12B active parameters with a vision encoder
Provider reference inputs include text, images and sampled video frames; document pages can be supplied as images with accompanying text
Visual reasoning for OCR, tables, charts, screenshots and document-layout questions
An underlying context capability up to 1M tokens, with the prompt, visual input, history and response sharing the configured budget
OpenRouter advertises reasoning, tools and structured-output parameters, subject to each serving endpoint’s support
Before you choose
The model card’s maximum context is not a universal OpenRouter allowance. The reviewed Together and DeepInfra endpoints list 262,144 context tokens, while CoreWeave lists 1,048,576. Use the selected endpoint’s published allowance.
Visual tokens, conversation history, reasoning and the final response consume the serving endpoint’s context budget. Reserve output space instead of filling the entire window with source material.
A readable chart can still be misread. Check axis scales, units, small print and every extracted value against the image. Vision understanding produces text, not generated images or edited files.
NVIDIA deployment-template settings and hosted OpenRouter request parameters are different interfaces. Confirm the hosted parameter schema rather than copying self-hosting flags into a gateway request.
Reasoning behavior
NVIDIA documents configurable reasoning through its deployment chat template, including off and two thinking modes. OpenRouter advertises reasoning support, but a self-hosted enable_thinking flag is not automatically the same as a hosted request parameter. Use the selected endpoint’s supported reasoning schema and compare evidence quality, latency and token use on a representative visual task. There is no universal hosted effort scale or default established by the model card alone.
The website slug is nemotron-3-5-super-vl; the exact hosted model identifier is nvidia/nemotron-3.5-super-vl. NVIDIA is the model developer, while OpenRouter provides the hosted Chat Completions interface and routes to serving endpoints.
OpenRouter lists supported parameters by endpoint. Check reasoning, tools, response-format and modality support together with the endpoint’s context and completion limits when designing a request.
The reviewed Together endpoint lists 262,144 context and 235,929 maximum completion tokens. CoreWeave lists 1,048,576 context and 943,718 maximum completion tokens. These are host reference ceilings, not app response allowances or guarantees for a full input window.
NVIDIA’s deployment-specific vision sampling recommendations and chat-template flags describe self-hosting. OpenRouter may normalize requests, choose a different host or expose a different parameter set; inspect the resolved provider when comparing behavior.
Put it to work

Workflow 01
Check a chart against a written claim
Tie each conclusion to visible labels, scales and values.
Read the chart image and the written claim below. Identify the title, axes, units and time range before assessing the claim. Quote the visible values that support or contradict it, describe any scale or missing baseline that changes the interpretation, and mark unreadable labels as uncertain. Return a short evidence table and a corrected statement supported only by the supplied chart.
Workflow 02
Extract a small table from a page image
Preserve source rows and flag uncertain or inconsistent values.
Extract the line items from this page screenshot into a table with description, quantity, unit price and stated total. Preserve currency and decimal precision exactly. Use unknown for unreadable cells, show the source row for every item, and flag totals that do not match the visible arithmetic. Do not guess hidden rows or claim that your output was validated by an enforced JSON schema.
Workflow 03
Compare a screen with an accessibility brief
Separate visible design evidence from behavior needing a browser test.
Compare this interface screenshot with the accessibility requirements pasted below. Identify visible problems with labeling, hierarchy, touch-target spacing and contrast, while marking measurements that require source styles or an interactive browser. Cite a specific region for each observation and suggest a focused acceptance test. Do not claim that keyboard navigation or screen-reader behavior was tested from the screenshot.

Input

Cached input

The reviewed Together endpoint lists $0.15 input, $0.02 cached input and $0.50 output per million tokens. This is a named-host reference, not a universal rate for every OpenRouter endpoint.
Other hosts have different limits and rates. The reviewed DeepInfra listing is $0.20 input and $1 output; CoreWeave lists $0.25 input and $1.50 output per million tokens. Recheck the resolved endpoint before estimating provider cost.

Common questions
A few things worth knowing.
How is Super VL different from Nemotron 3 Super?
Super VL is the separately identified vision-language model nvidia/nemotron-3.5-super-vl. Its model card includes visual input and a vision encoder. The existing Nemotron 3 Super guide describes a different text route; adding VL does not rename or replace that earlier model.
What is the difference between NVIDIA and OpenRouter here?
NVIDIA develops the model. OpenRouter exposes the paid nvidia/nemotron-3.5-super-vl route through Chat Completions and lists serving endpoints with their own limits, prices and supported parameters. The developer, gateway and serving host are distinct roles.
Can I rely on a 1M-token context window?
Only after checking the serving endpoint. The model supports up to 1M in suitable deployments, but the reviewed OpenRouter endpoints include both 262,144 and 1,048,576-token context limits. Input, visual tokens, history, reasoning and output must fit the applicable shared budget.
How does Super VL analyze documents and video?
NVIDIA documents visual-document understanding through page images and video understanding through sampled frames. Use readable pages, retain page or timestamp references and check the serving endpoint’s input format. Visual understanding returns text rather than a new document or video file.
How should reasoning be configured?
Use the reasoning parameters supported by the exact hosted endpoint. NVIDIA’s self-hosted chat-template controls are a different interface and do not establish a universal OpenRouter effort scale. Compare a bounded visual task before increasing reasoning expenditure.
How much output can the hosted model produce?
The reviewed Together endpoint lists 235,929 maximum completion tokens within a 262,144-token context; CoreWeave lists 943,718 within a 1,048,576-token context. Those are hosted reference ceilings. The request’s input, visual tokens, history and reasoning leave less room for the final answer.
Does a visual answer prove every value was read correctly?
No. Small text, ambiguous scales and dense layouts can lead to confident mistakes. Ask for evidence tied to visible labels and source rows, allow unknown values and check important arithmetic against the source.
Are the listed prices guaranteed for my request?
No. The table is a dated Together-on-OpenRouter API reference. Other serving endpoints publish different prices. EZ Ai Assist subscription allowances and usage charges are separate from the provider’s published token rates.
